Equality and diversity

At Avon Fire & Rescue Service, we celebrate equality and diversity. Our commitment is to create an inclusive environment where every voice is valued and empowers collective success.

Our commitment to equality and diversity aligns seamlessly with the Service
Values, which are actionable principles that aspire to be:

The Service celebrates diversity as a strength and recognises that each member of the team brings a unique perspective.

Equality and Diversity at Avon Fire & Rescue Service goes beyond uniform treatment for everyone. Recognising the diversity in both its workforce and the population it serves, the organisation understands that individuals may require additional support to ensure equal access to opportunities. For instance, AF&RS installs specific smoke alarms for individuals who are deaf or visually impaired. This tailored approach ensures that each person has equal access to the opportunity of maintaining safety in their homes, rather than applying a one-size-fits-all strategy, which could put individuals at risk.

Our commitment

The services commitment to improvement is backed by dedicated resources. A specialised Diversity, Inclusion, Cohesion, and Equality (DICE) Team who actively engage in shaping internal policies, supporting managers in conducting Equality Impact Assessments, and participating in external community engagement efforts. The Assistant Chief Fire Officer for Service Delivery Support provides essential backing, and oversight is maintained through the DICE Improvement Board, which includes key internal personnel and external experts.

“At Avon Fire & Rescue, we celebrate equality and diversity. Our commitment is to create an inclusive environment where every voice is valued and empowers collective success.”
