Staff benefits and rewards

You will enjoy a generous annual leave entitlement, starting at a minimum of 24 days, in addition to bank holidays. The allowance increases based on your grade and length of service.

All starters can join the local government pension scheme.

Life can present its challenges and we have a range of resources available to make sure you can access appropriate support if needed. A confidential counselling service is available to all staff members when they join the Service. All staff and their eligible family members will also gain access to a range of physical, emotional and social support services though the Fire Fighters Charity, including a 24/7 crisis line.

Our in-house Wellbeing Team also provide one-to-one support and a range of support services, designed to support your wellbeing.

We have dedicated members of staff who provide support in relation to fitness to ensure you are in the best shape to deliver pass your fitness test if you are an operational firefighter. Advice around fitness and nutrition is also avaialble to all staff from the fitness advisors located throughout the Service.

Free gym access to all members of staff at each fire station. There is also access to a gym at Police & Fire Headquarters in Portishead for a nominal monthly amount.

Free parking at all of our locations, at working fire stations these can be limited at certain times of the day.

We understand that certain roles require extensive screen time. To support your eye health, we provide a voucher for an eye test every two years. Additionally, for those eligible under current Display Screen Equipment (DSE) regulations, we offer a contribution towards the expense of your glasses.

Staff can benefit from a number of discounts that are promoted in house regularly. You will also have access to the Blue Light Card, a scheme which gives members discounts online and on the high street.

Flexible working is available for corporate staff. We encourage a hybrid model working a different locations as well as at home if needed.

Many of our staff are signed up to the cycle to work scheme. You too could have access to a tax free bicycle loan (and accessories) for us to £3,500. Pay back period is 12 to 24 months.

We are able to support you to make the transition from fossil fuel to low emission cars without the up front capital costs. You would pay a monthly proportion of your gross salary (before tax & national insurance contributions) in exchange for a brand new car.

You will be well supported when your life is seeming being turned upside down with a new addition to the family. You would be entitled to up to 52 weeks leave, with full pay for 39 weeks, additional 13 weeks is unpaid.
