At Paulton, our on-call firefighters are paid to serve their local community, which they can do alongside their everyday jobs and commitments.
Responding from home or work when needed, the crew attends around 60 incidents each year, including fires, assisting other agencies (such as Police or Ambulance) and animal rescues.
Our on-call firefighters come from a wide range of backgrounds, balancing their role at the station with careers in other industries. With a mix of experience levels and ages, the team works together to respond quickly and effectively to every call, we call this a “shout”.
To respond promptly when their pager goes off, on-call firefighters need to live or work close to the station typically within around five minutes.
This usually means being based in or near areas such as Paulton, Midsomer Norton, Temple Cloud, High Littleton and Hallatrow.
This station typically sees a mix of callouts, and every shift is varied, covering things such as:
- Fires: homes, vehicles, or commercial premises
- Community safety work
- Road traffic collisions (RTC): assisting people trapped or injured
- Rescues: including flooding, animals, or people in difficulty
- Major incidents: supporting larger emergencies across the Service area
