Southmead Fire Station was constructed in 1960. The station is crewed 24 hours a day by wholetime firefighters. The station has:
- One fire engine
- A foam unit, which is used to transport foam to incidents. Foam can be used for lots of different things, such as fuel and oil fires or if there is a short water supply.
- A major salvation unit. This is used to save properties and high value goods from water damage. It contains an industrial vacuum for water and submersible pipes that can go into the water to pump it out. The unit also has generators and lighting for it to run efficiently.
