In an emergency always call 999
Avon Fire & Rescue Service opens its recruitment process on Monday 13 April, to recruit on-call firefighters in eleven stations across its Service area.
On-call firefighters are everyday people who live or work within five minutes of their local station and are ready respond to incidents when their pager sounds.
In this role, you’ll be part of a highly trained team responding to everything from road traffic collisions and fires to chemical incidents, water and rope rescues, animal emergencies, and lifesaving medical calls.
It’s a chance to step into a role that’s fast-paced, meaningful, and rooted in community. On-call firefighters make a real difference in keeping their communities safe.
The following stations are looking for firefighters to join them: Bath, Chew Magna, Paulton, Blagdon, Nailsea, Winscombe, Clevedon, Pill, Portishead, Yatton and Thornbury. Please note you must live and/or work within five minutes of your local on-call station.
Applications open at noon on Monday, 13th April 2026, with the closing date Monday, 18th May 2026. Full details of the application process are available on our website.
On Call Station Manager Paul Kirk said: “We rely on a team of people from all backgrounds, with a mix of skills and experiences, to deliver an effective front-line service and make our region safer. We’re looking for enthusiastic individuals who can combine an exciting and rewarding contribution to their community with the challenges of their primary role. If this sounds like you, we welcome your application to join the Service.”
