Bath Fire Station

The purpose is to provide a building which is fit for a modern fire and rescue service; and to ensure we can continue to protect the residents of Bath and the world heritage city going forward.

The current building has significant structural defects throughout, as well as only having five bays for the six vehicles based at Bath. These bays are no longer fit for purpose with the width and height being too small. The layout of the station also does not reflect modern practices and cannot be adapted in its current footprint to suit this. This includes the safe management of fire contaminants which directly affect the health of our firefighters. The new layout will address these issues, making our fire station at Bath more efficient for response, more efficient in its energy usage and more effective in supporting our operations.

The new building will be primarily faced in Bath Stone to ensure proposals are in-keeping with the surroundings. 

The new building footprint will have the same area as the existing buildings.

The training tower is proposed to move, enhancing the training facilities provided for our firefighters.   

No, the operation of the building will stay the same. 

The lighting scheme will be in keeping with BANES expectations. 

The main door will be clearly located at the front of the station for members of the public to report to.

There are no plans for the ambulance station. The building is owned by South West Ambulance Service Trust (SWAST) and will remain as is.

There will be a footpath closure and diversion in place on Bathwick Street and the site boundary will be right out to the road, but this will not impact traffic and will remain open in both directions.

There will be no change in the response times to incidents within the city. 

Fire crews will be located at a temporary site within the city for the duration of the building project. 

 There will be no direct cost increase to local residents in relation to this project.

The new building will be three storeys (ground, first and second).

The project hours will be clearly defined prior to the project starting on site. These hours will be planning led.

The building works are programmed between 12-18 months.

The new building will be all electric with solar panels (PVs) on the roof and a high performing building fabric. A green roof will be provided and new planting to increase biodiversity on the site.
