On Friday 12 September, the iconic Grand Pier in Weston-super-Mare will be illuminated in red light to shine a spotlight on the importance of staying safe from fire at home.
The event forms part of Home Fire Safety Month 2025, encouraging local people to take just a few minutes to complete the free Online Home Fire Safety Check, a quick tool that gives tailored advice to keep you and your family safe.
In the past year, Avon Fire & Rescue Service crews attended 505 accidental house fires across the Service area, many of which could have been prevented with simple steps.
Avon Fire & Rescue Services’ Prevention Manager Nikki Rice said: “Illuminating the Grand Pier is a powerful way to grab people’s attention, but what really matters is what happens at home.
“We want every household across our Service area to shine a light on their own fire safety and take those simple steps to stay protected.”
Local people and visitors to the area are invited to join crews from Weston-Super-Mare Fire Station at the Grand Pier between 12pm and 8pm, where they can get free fire safety advice, test smoke alarms, and learn more about the Home Fire Safety Check.
