In an emergency always call 999
Avon Fire & Rescue Service (AF&RS) has launched a recruitment campaign to find its next generation of on-call firefighters and applications are now open.
As an on-call firefighter, employed at your local on-call fire station, you’ll be providing an invaluable service to your local community and making a difference to people’s lives. You’ll be responding to a wide range of emergencies, from road traffic collisions, firefighting, chemical incidents, rope, water, and animal rescue and providing medical care to those in need.
The following on-call stations are looking for firefighters to join them: Bath, Chew Magna, Paulton, Radstock, Blagdon, Nailsea, Winscombe, Clevedon, Pill, Portishead, Yatton, Yate and Thornbury. Please note you must live and/or work within five minutes of your local on-call station.
Prospective on-call firefighters will be able to submit their application from Tuesday, 1 April 2025. Following the initial part of the process, successful candidates will be invited to the next stage which will be an interview at the station they’ve applied to join.
If you’re interested in the role of an on-call firefighter, there are a number of on-call firefighter recruitment open days which will provide a chance to meet the crews, have a go at different exercises and familiarise yourself with the role.
