Avon Fire & Rescue Service welcomes the Chinese Wellbeing Society to Patchway Fire Station for a fire safety open day

On Thursday, 29 May, Avon Fire & Rescue Service (AF&RS) proudly hosted a special home fire safety open day at Patchway Fire Station in partnership with the Chinese Wellbeing Society. The event welcomed members of the community along with key partner agencies for a day filled with vital fire safety advice, community engagement, and interactive learning.

The open day featured a series of drop-in home fire safety talks, focusing on essential topics such as preventing fires in the home, electrical fire safety, smoke alarm maintenance, planning effective escape routes, and carrying out bedtime safety checks. The event also served as an important platform to raise awareness of AF&RS’s services for all members of the community, our home fire safety advice is especially beneficial for older adults, people with mobility issues, and those living alone.

Visitors were able to learn more about our free Home Fire Safety Check , which offers tailored fire safety advice specific to individuals’ homes and lifestyles.

Nikki Rice, Prevention Manager for Avon Fire & Rescue Service, said: “Events like this are a fantastic way for us to connect with our communities and make sure everyone has access to the fire safety support they need. By working closely with community groups like the Chinese Wellbeing Society, we can ensure our fire prevention messages are accessible and meaningful to everyone.”

The day was also a hit with families, as guests had the opportunity to meet local firefighters and take a tour around a fire engine. The Children and Young People team were on hand to engage with younger visitors through interactive activities and safety education. Meanwhile, our Business Fire Safety team provided invaluable guidance to local business owners on keeping their premises safe and compliant with fire regulations.

Overall, the day was a great success, with strong attendance and enthusiastic participation from all. Avon Fire & Rescue Service is committed to continuing this community-focused approach and looks forward to running more events like this in the future.
