Avon Fire & Rescue Service (AF&RS) will be launching their latest recruitment campaign for wholetime firefighters and this time, candidates aren’t required to live in the Service area to apply.
Prospective firefighters will be able to register their interest from Monday, 10 August to Sunday, 16 August via the AF&RS website. Following the initial part of the process, candidates will be invited to take part in the online questionnaires and ability tests, before being asked to complete the application form.
Being a modern firefighter is about far more than putting out fires. Our wholetime firefighters are trained to deal with a wide range of emergencies, including road traffic collisions, chemical incidents, water rescues, medical emergencies and specialist rescues of animals who have become stuck. Not only that, but you’ll be also working closely with your community and helping to deliver key safety messages, through Home Fire Safety Visits, educational sessions with young people and attending local events.
Following a pay award, a fully qualified firefighter earns a salary of £40,358 with a strong benefits package including enrolment in a generous pension scheme, access to private healthcare and employee support services; and training and development available throughout your career. Although applicants don’t need any specific qualifications to become a firefighter, you will be required to be aged 18 or over when training school starts, be physically fit and have good upper body strength; and have the legal right to work in the UK at the time you start employment.
