Avon Fire & Rescue Service is asking people across the area to share what risks they are most concerned about in their communities, as part of an important consultation to help shape future fire and rescue planning.
The public consultation will run from Tuesday 4 August to Tuesday 29 September 2026 and is open to anyone who lives, works, studies or travels across the Avon Fire & Rescue Service area, including Bristol, Bath and North East Somerset, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire.
People are being invited to complete a short, confidential survey about the risks they see in their local area, from fires and road traffic collisions to flooding, water safety, e-bike batteries and support for vulnerable people.
The feedback gathered will provide an early evidence base for the development of Avon Fire & Rescue Service’s next Community Risk Management Plan (CRMP) 2028 to 2033. The plan will set out the current and future risks across the area and explain how the Service will prevent, protect against and respond to those risks over the five-year period from April 2028 to March 2033.
Group Manager Sean Heighton, head of Risk Management at Avon Fire & Rescue Service, said: “Every community is different, meaning the risks people experience or worry about can vary depending on where they live, work or study, worship, socialise, convalesce or travel. This consultation is an opportunity for local people to tell us what matters most to them.
“By sharing their views, people can help us build a clearer picture of current and emerging risks across Avon as a whole but also its constitute parts. That insight will sit alongside our operational data and professional understanding, helping us develop a Community Risk Management Plan to reflect the needs, priorities and experiences of the communities we serve.
“The survey is quick, confidential and open to everyone living or working within the Avon Service area. We would encourage as many people as possible to take part and help shape how we keep communities safe in the years ahead.”
The consultation is the first stage of public engagement in the CRMP development process. Further consultation will take place at later stages, including engagement on finances and the draft objectives for the new plan.
Following the consultation, responses and focus group feedback will be analysed during October 2026 and used to inform the next stage of CRMP development.
