In an emergency always call 999
Avon Fire & Rescue Service (AF&RS) will, once again, be celebrating Bristol Pride in style by hosting a ‘Get ready with us for Pride’ event at Temple Fire Station. Taking place this year on Saturday, 12 July, from 8.30-10.30am, you can expect glitter, face paint and plenty of fun, plus a complimentary breakfast (while they last).
Joined by the NHS, AF&RS will be celebrating at the station and be on hand to answer any questions on working for the emergency services, sharing health and safety advice or simply join you in getting ready for the day ahead.
Open to all, there’s plenty for the whole family to enjoy, including fun and games with the Bristol City Robins Foundation, the official charity of Bristol City Football Club and our Children and Young Persons (CYP) department. Bristol Mind, the local branch of the national mental health charity, will also be in attendance.
Firefighter Kayley Bridges, who’s organising this year’s event, said: “As an advocate for championing LGBTQ+ voices within AF&RS and supporting those who identify themselves within that community, it’s been important to me to plan an event that’s inclusive and fun for all.
“In the lead up to this event, we’ve also been able to raise money for Off the Record – a fantastic charity offering counselling services and support to the LGBTQ+ youth of Bristol and North Somerset – at charity car washes on station. Please do come along and join in us getting ready for this year’s Bristol Pride.”
Kyle Rees, Diversity, Inclusion, Cohesion and Equalities Officer at AF&RS, added: “This event at Temple Fire Station, ahead of the day’s Bristol Pride celebrations, provides a great opportunity to welcome and connect with our community. Whether you’d like to find out more about what we do and what’s it like to work for us, chat to us about fire safety or simply join us for the celebrations, we’d love to see you there.”
After the event, firefighters and staff will join the renowned Bristol Pride Parade alongside the South Western Ambulance NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT) and Bristol Mind to show our support and celebrate with our communities.
