Across the country, work is underway to fix buildings with unsafe cladding following the Grenfell Tower fire. Nationally, most of the highest risk buildings have already started or completed repairs. The government has set new deadlines to make sure all remaining unsafe buildings are fixed as quickly as possible.

What this means for our region
AF&RS has worked closely with the West of England Mayoral Combined Authority and local councils to shape the Local Remediation Acceleration Plan. Our role is to provide expert fire safety advice, help identify risks, and support partners to make sure buildings are made safe.
The Combined Authority has been given £868,500 to support this work up to 2028/29. Bristol City Council has also received £364,345 directly from government. No direct funding has been given to the other local authorities or to AF&RS.
Because AF&RS has a statutory duty for fire safety across the whole region, the Combined Authority plans to allocate most of its funding to the Service. This will help ensure:
AF&RS will continue to work with partners to support building owners, ensure risks are properly managed, and help the region meet national deadlines.
