Mechanics Gear Up for Bristol Krazy Races

A team of mechanics from Avon Fire & Rescue Service will be swapping fire engines for a soapbox racer as they take on the Bristol Krazy Races on Sunday 7 September.

Known as The Red Hot Wrenches, the team has spent months designing and building their very own custom soapbox, which they’ll race down the steep slopes of Windmill Hill in front of thousands of spectators.

True to their firefighting roots, the racer has been built with a striking fire engine inspired design, complete with sirens, blue lights, and bold red paintwork.

But this challenge is about more than speed. The Red Hot Wrenches are raising funds for The Fire Fighters Charity, which provides vital physical, mental, and social support to firefighters and their families across the UK.

Ben Brown Workshop’s Technician said:

“This has been a fantastic project for our technicians it’s given them the chance to showcase their creativity and teamwork in a completely different way. We’re really proud of their efforts and hope the community will get behind them and support The Fire Fighters Charity.”

The Bristol Krazy Races will see teams from across the region compete in wacky, home-built soapboxes, tackling jumps, obstacles, and tight corners as they race downhill.

Members of the public can cheer on The Red Hot Wrenches at the event and support them by donating through their JustGiving fundraising page
