Fire crews train for ship incident at Royal Portbury Docks
Fire crews train for ship incident at Royal Portbury Docks
Crews from across Avon Fire & Rescue Service (AF&RS) came together for a training exercise at The Bristol Port Company’s Royal Portbury Docks that simulated a fire aboard a large commercial ship.
Fire and water don’t mix, but a fire on a ship isn’t unheard of. In an isolated environment such as a commercial vessel, a fire can have devastating consequences. Firefighters from stations near to the Port took on a complex training exercise to go through their procedures should an incident of this nature occur.
Organiser Station Manager Chris Bellingham said: “It’s vitally important that our crews have the opportunity to exercise scenarios such as this, and we’re grateful to our colleagues from police and The Port for helping us to make this training event happen.
“We’d also like a say a big thank you to the shipping company for accommodating this important training.”
Crews from Avonmouth, Yate, Southmead, Pill, Portishead, Temple, Bedminster and Kingswood all attended, with over 30 firefighters and eight appliances descending on the docks on Tuesday night.
