In an emergency always call 999
This week (27th October – 2nd November), Avon Fire & Rescue Service is celebrating International Control Room Week, shining a spotlight on the teams who keep our Control rooms running and our communities safe.
Control Firefighters are often the first point of contact in emergencies, coordinating responses, supporting firefighters, and making split-second decisions that save lives. While their work may seem to be behind the scenes, this is far from the case. Their expertise, professionalism, and calm under pressure are critical to every incident.
Matt Cook, Chief Fire Officer:
“International Control Room Week is an opportunity to shine a light on our Control colleagues, who are the highly skilled, dedicated heartbeat of our service. As the first Incident Commander, they manage traumatic and high-pressure situations, making critical decisions and acting as the voice of reassurance for those in their greatest time of need. To our Control colleagues, we thank each of you for your commitment, dedication, and leadership, acting as that essential first link in every emergency.”
Krissy Foster-Pullen, Station Manager Control:
“Our Control teams are at the heart of every response. Their professionalism, teamwork, and ability to make fast, critical decisions mean that help gets to those who need it, every time. International Control Room Week is about recognising and celebrating their work and showing the faces behind the voices we hear every day.”
Throughout the week, Avon Fire & Rescue Service is highlighting the importance of the people and the teams who make this possible. Combined experience and dedication ensure that every call is answered promptly, every fire crew is supported, and every community is kept safe. International Control Room Week is a chance to celebrate these vital colleagues and recognise the critical role they play in the service
