This important day is all about recognising the achievements of women, raising awareness of gender inequality, and championing a more inclusive and equitable world. At Avon Fire & Rescue Service, we’re committed to these values and continue to drive meaningful change within the fire and rescue sector.
To mark the occasion, were taking part in a series of events and initiatives to celebrate and support the incredible women in our service and beyond.
Bristol Women’s Voice International Women’s Day event
We’re thrilled to be attending Bristol Women’s Voice’s annual International Women’s Day event at City Hall in Bristol city centre on Saturday, 8 March 10am – 5pm. Our team will be there to highlight recruitment opportunities, showcase our community safety work, and demonstrate our ongoing commitment to diversity and inclusion. International Women’s Day ‘Shining Star’ Awards – for AF&RS Staff.
We believe in recognising the outstanding contributions of our female colleagues, which is why we’re excited to launch our internal ‘Shining Star’ Awards. These awards celebrate those who have gone above and beyond in their roles, making a real difference in the workplace. We’ll be announcing the winners soon, so stay tuned!
Women in the Fire Service (WFS) regional event
Also taking place on 8 March, this regional event will bring together fire service colleagues from Cornwall, Dorset and Wiltshire, Gloucestershire, and within AF&RS. It’s a fantastic opportunity for staff to build skills, expand their knowledge, and connect with others in the sector. This initiative supports both personal and professional growth within the fire service.
International Women’s Day is a chance to reflect on the progress made and the work still to be done to create a more inclusive fire and rescue service. We’re proud to stand alongside women everywhere in celebrating their achievements.
