M4 Westbound, J18-19

Crews from Bath, Temple, Patchway, Yate and Radstock were called at 15:48 to reports of a vehicle fire on the M4 Westbound, between junction 18-19.

On arrival, firefighters found a trailer of the lorry, carrying straw, well alight. After disconnecting the trailer, they used three 45mm jets, one high pressure hose reel and drag forks to extinguish the blaze. All those at the scene wore respirators for safety. Six firefighters wore breathing apparatus.

Avon & Somerset Police and National Highways were also in attendance.

The cause of the fire is thought to be accidental.

Crews returned to the scene in the early hours of this morning (25 April) to extinguish hotspots identified in the hay.
