Crews were called to support police colleagues with an incident on Dove Street in Kingsdown at 15:49 on Monday 3 June.
Crews from Temple, Southmead, Bedminster, Patchway, Kingswood, Yate and Avonmouth responded over the course of the afternoon and into the evening.
With crews wearing protective clothing, firefighters remained on the scene supporting emergency services colleagues until around 01:00 on 04/06/2024.
Specialist officers were supported by Avon Fire and Rescue and South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT) and were able to detain the man under the Mental Health Act and to make the area safe. He is now in the care of mental health services.
Officers from the Neighbourhood Policing team will be out providing high-visibility reassurance patrols in the area over the coming days. Avon and Somerset Police are encouraging any members of the public with concerns to speak with these officers.
