Cats lost in house fire

Bristol Road, Cromhall

A house fire in South Gloucestershire has claimed the life of two cats.

Firefighters from Avon Fire & Rescue Service and neighbouring Gloucestershire Fire & Rescue Service were called to reports of a fire in the kitchen of a house.

Once on scene crews found smoke coming from the ground floor; as the occupiers were out at the time firefighters in breathing apparatus forced entry to the house.

Once inside they found the fire in the kitchen which had filled the room with thick smoke. During their search firefighters found the bodies of two cats which had been overcome by the smoke.

High pressure hose reels and a jet was used to deal with the fire which is believed to have started accidentally within an oil boiler.

The doors to the kitchen had been closed at the time which prevented the fire and smoke from spreading to the rest of the house.
