Fire crews have prevented a fire that started in a utility room from spreading to neighbouring homes.
Crews from Speedwell were called to the incident, and requested additional resources when they found the house well alight. Six firefighters in breathing apparatus used three high pressure hose reels to deal with the blaze.
The fire is believed to have started in a utility room, before spreading to an adjoining kitchen and externally to roof eaves. An aerial appliance was brought in to deliver water from above in an effort prevent the roof fire from affecting properties adjoining the semi-detached home.
Crews were successful in limiting the spread of the fire to other homes, although it did cause extensive damage in property where it started.
One lady was home at the time of the fire, but was only alerted when she smelt smoke. She managed to escape safely before calling for help.
The fire is thought to have been caused by a tumble dryer which was operating in the utility room at the time.
