Investigation continues into fatal house fire

Merryweather Close, Bradley Stoke, Bristol

An investigation is continuing into the cause of a house fire in South Gloucestershire in which two children have died.

Crews from seven fire stations were called to the two storey property in Bradley Stoke in response to numerous 999 calls.

On arrival firefighters were faced with a well developed blaze in the first floor and roof space of the property.

Four people, two adults and two children, had escaped from the house prior to the arrival of the fire and rescue service, however two children, both aged under 10, were reported missing.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus carried out a search of the building and used jets to bring the blaze under control. During the course of the search the bodies of two children were found.

An investigation by Avon and Somerset Police and Avon Fire & Rescue Service into the cause of the fire is continuing today (Monday).
