Woman rescued from RTC

Freezing Hill, Wick

Firefighters have rescued a woman whose foot became trapped during a road traffic collision.

When crews arrived on the scene they found two vehicles involved. The driver of a Volkswagen Passat was already out of his car unharmed, but a woman in her 60s was trapped in a Mercedes.

She was conscious and breathing but complaining of pain in her left ankle.

Crews quickly stabilised the vehicle and used hydraulic cutting equipment to remove the roof of the car. They then worked to roll the dashboard back and free the woman’s foot. She was assisted from the vehicle and taken to hospital by ambulance.

Her injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

The road was closed while the incident was ongoing.
