A 28 year old man and an 18 month old baby have been taken to hospital after a road traffic collision involving a car and a light goods vehicle.
On arrival firefighters found the driver of the light goods vehicle, a man in his 40s, unharmed.
The car, a Skoda Octavia, had ended up on the verge with the 28 year old male driver trapped and suffering from neck and spinal injuries.
A female, in her 20s, and three children aged one year, 18 months and three years old, who had been in the car at the time were already out. However, the 18 month old child was taken to hospital for a precautionary check up.
Firefighters quickly stabilised the car, then worked to assist the driver with oxygen therapy. They then used hydraulic cutting equipment to remove the roof of the car. Working alongside paramedics the man was assisted on to a spinal board and taken to hospital. His injuries are not thought to be life threatening.
