A 22-year-old horse has been rescued by firefighters after it became trapped in a water-filled ditch up to its knees.
When crews arrived on the scene they were met by the owner of the small holding, who showed them to the ditch where the horse had been for a number of hours. The animal was exhausted from trying to get itself out.
Working alongside a vet, crews managed to get a sling around the horse, which was sedated.
Firefighters called for assistance from crews at Bath Fire Station, who are specially trained in large animal rescue techniques. However, crews already at the scene managed to use lines to assist the animal out of the ditch before they arrived.
The horse was able to stand on its own and appeared to be uninjured.
