Man treated for smoke inhalation at Hanham fire

High Street, Hanham

A man was taken to hospital after inhaling smoke at a fire in a flat in Hanham.

Three crews attended reports of the fire inside a second floor flat in a three storey building. Firefighters from Kingswood and Bedminster found the fire within the kitchen of the flat which was tackled by firefighters using a high pressure hose reel.

A man in his 60s who had been in the flat at the time of the fire had already escaped before crews arrived. He was treated by firefighters and paramedics at the scene for the effects of smoke inhalation, before being taken to hospital by ambulance.

Six flats in the building were evacuated as crews dealt with the incident. The fire was contained to the second floor flat, causing heat and smoke damage throughout.

It’s thought the fire started accidentally while food was being cooked under a grill.
