M4 motorway, eastbound junctions 17 to 18
A lady who was a passenger in a vehicle which left the motorway and finished up in a tree has been rescued by firefighters.
Crews from Yate and Bath, as well as a fire engine from Wiltshire Fire & Rescue Service, attended the incident. Once on scene firefighters found the male driver, believed to be aged in his 50s, was already out of the car, however a female passenger was still trapped.
The car is thought to have left the motorway before travelling up an embankment and coming to rest in a tree. Due to the car’s precarious position crews used lines and strops to secure the vehicle before working to free the lady, who was believed to be aged in her 80s.
She was moved from the car onto a spinal board, before being taken to hospital. She suffered facial injuries in the collision as well as suspected neck and back injuries.
