Lady taken to hospital after bungalow fire

Filton Avenue, Filton

A woman her 70s was taken to hospital as a precaution following a fire in her bungalow.

Three fire engines from Patchway, Southmead and Temple fire stations were called to reports of the blaze in the semi-detached property. Once on scene crews were faced with a well-developed fire so immediately set to work to bring it under control. Four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used high pressure hose reels and jets to deal with the fire which caused extensive damage to the front bedroom.

The blaze also caused smoke damage throughout the rest of the home. Crews were successful however in preventing the fire from spreading to a neighbouring property.

A lady in her 70s and her pet dog were at home at the time of the fire, but both had managed to make their way to safety before crews arrived. The lady was treated on the scene by paramedics for the effects of smoke inhalation and was taken to hospital as a precaution.

The cause of the fire is being investigated.
