Staff from Avon Fire & Rescue Service will be attending an event on business fire safety in Weston-super-Mare tomorrow (Wednesday 10 May).
Members of the Service’s Technical Fire Safety team will be providing advice to restaurant and café owners during the event at Weston-super-Mare Town Hall, between 11.00hrs and 16.00hrs.
Watch Manager Richard Bobruk from Avon Fire & Rescue Service said: “The event is primarily aimed at owners of takeaways, cafes and restaurants where people are sleeping above the accommodation.
“We’re keen to reach out to business owners to provide advice and education to help them to comply with fire safety legislation. Over the years we have brought prosecutions where there have been breaches of the law which put lives at risk, but we would rather provide guidance beforehand to avoid having to take people to court.
“We have seen some extremely poor examples of fire safety so this event is about reminding people of their responsibilities and guiding them to comply with the Fire Safety Order.”
As well as Avon Fire & Rescue Service the event will be attended by North Somerset Council’s Licensing Team, Avon & Somerset Police, along with food standards, and Health & Safety officers.
WM Bobruk will give a series of presentations on fire safety in food businesses, how to comply with legislation and will also answer any questions on fire safety.
