Valley Road, Portishead
Firefighting operations are continuing at Black Rock Quarry, Portishead, where Avon Fire & Rescue Service has been dealing with a serious fire since the early hours of Tuesday morning.
Crews were called to the police training centre, currently under construction, at 04.37hrs and on arrival found a well-developed fire.
Fire engines and a turntable ladder are being used to tackle the fire.
There have been issues with the water supply in the area so High Volume Pumps, which can move 7,000 litres of water a minute, from AF&RS and South Wales Fire & Rescue Service are being used to move water from a local ryne.
Firefighters remain at the scene damping down and dealing with hot spots.
At this stage an investigation into the cause of the fire has not yet started. Fire investigators will only begin their work once the fire has been completely extinguished and it is safe for them to access the building.
As is normal practice in any investigation we will keep an open mind over the potential cause of the fire and therefore will not speculate on the findings of the investigation.
