Fire at police training centre – update 09.25hrs

Avon Fire & Rescue Service remained on the scene of the fire at Valley Road, Portishead overnight.

There are still a number of pockets of fire which are being tackled by firefighters and it is expected that crews will remain on the scene for much of today.

Two High Volume Pumps (HVPs) are being used to get water on to the fire from the Gordano Valley Ryne system. The HVPs can move 7,000 litres of water a minute.

The investigation into the cause of the fire will begin once the fire is completely extinguished and it is deemed safe to enter the building.
