Fire at police training centre

Valley Road, Portishead

A fire engine responding to an emergency callMultiple fire crews responded to a fire at a police training centre which is under construction off Valley Road in Portishead, near to, but not on the same site as, police headquarters.

The alarm was raised shortly after 04.30hrs.

When crews arrived, they found around 50% of the building – which measures around 140m by 40m – was well alight.

Valley Road has been closed to traffic.

Six pumping appliances have attended, together with a mobile command unit and other support vehicles were sent to the scene.

Firefighters have also been using a turntable ladder as a water tower to help attack the flames from above and four hose lines are being used on the ground.

There is no indication of the cause at this stage.
