Fire guts house in Weston-super-Mare

Ilminster, Dunster Crescent, Weston-super-Mare

Firefighters have dealt with a severe fire at a house in Weston-super-Mare.

When crews arrived on the scene they found two floors of the property and the garage affected by the fire.

Fortunately the occupants, a male and a female in their 20s and their dog, had managed to escape. The man was treated for minor burns at the scene by paramedics but did not go to hospital.

Ten firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used three 45mm jets and three high pressure hose reels to extinguish the fire. Crews also stripped away the roof to ensure the fire was fully out.

The Red Cross Fire and Emergency Support Service was on scene to assist the occupants and offer advice.

The house was badly damaged by the fire, but fortunately it did not spread to the neighbouring property.

An investigation into the cause of the fire found it started accidentally after sparks from a blow torch caught some cellulose thinners and ignited.
