Overloaded sockets cause house fire

Selwood Close, Weston-super-Mare

Firefighters dealt with a fire at a house which started after too many items were plugged into an extension cable.

When crews arrived they found smoke coming from the property. Fortunately, the occupants, a man and a woman in their 20s, were already out and unharmed.

Two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used a high pressure hose reel and a 45mm covering jet to deal with the fire, which is thought to have started accidentally.

Avon Fire & Rescue Service would like to remind people never to overload sockets or extension cables, try to keep to one plug per socket and always switch off items which don’t need to be left on continuously.
