Marine Parade, Weston-super-Mare
Two people have been rescued by firefighters on board the Avon Fire & Rescue Service hovercraft after they became trapped in the mud.
HM Coastguard requested the attendance of the hovercraft to conduct a search of the area and firefighters on board picked up two coastguards. They quickly located a man and a woman, who were using the lights on their mobile phones to indicate their location.
The couple were not stuck in the mud, however they were extremely tired and muddy, and the tide was rapidly coming in.
Firefighters pulled the couple on board the hovercraft and they were taken to the shore where they were treated by ambulance crews and taken to hospital.
There were reports that two other people had been seen on the beach, however firefighters conducted a thorough search of the area and no one else was found.
Avon Fire & Rescue Service would like to remind people to take care when walking on the beach at Weston-super-Mare as the tide can rapidly come in and people can get stuck unexpectedly. Fortunately in this case firefighters were able to locate the couple quickly and take them to safety.
