Lonsdale Avenue, Weston-super-Mare
A neighbour was alerted to a fire in the house next door after the smoke alarms went off.
When firefighters arrived on scene they found a fire in the kitchen of the property, so two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used a high pressure hose reel and a CO2 extinguisher to put the fire out. A positive pressure ventilation fan was used to clear the smoke.
It’s thought the fire started accidentally after the occupant, a female in her 50s, left cooking in an oven and went out.
Fortunately no one was hurt but the kitchen was damaged by the fire and the rest of the house suffered smoke damage as the internal doors were open allowing the smoke to spread.
Avon Fire & Rescue Service would like to remind people to take care when cooking and never leave it unattended as it can catch fire.
