Firefighters rescue cow from slurry pit

Puxton Road, Rolstene, Banwell

Firefighters were called to assist a farmer after a cow fell into a slurry pit.

When crews arrived they found the 15 month-old heifer almost fully submerged in the 15ft deep slurry pit.

Working alongside a bovine vet, firefighters used a reach pole and a line to secure the cow and keep its head up whilst coaxing it to the side of the pit.

The specialist animal rescue team from Bedminster Fire Station were on scene to carry out a forward assist procedure using strops to lift the animal to safety.

The cow was unharmed.
