Two people rescued from motorway RTC

M5 motorway junctions 21 to 22 southbound

Road traffic collisionTwo people were rescued from their vehicle after a road traffic collision on the motorway.

When crews arrived on scene they found two vehicles involved, a Renault Clio and a Citroen Xsara.

Two occupants in the Citroen, a man and a woman in their 70s, were trapped. The woman was suffering from chest injuries and the man was suffering suspected spinal injuries.

Firefighters stabilised the vehicle and then used hydraulic cutting equipment to remove the roof of the car. Working alongside paramedics, crews assisted the woman out of the vehicle and she was taken to hospital.

The man was assisted on to a spinal board and taken to hospital by air ambulance.

No one else was hurt.
