Avon Way, Portishead
A man in his 60s was taken to hospital after suffering burns when gas from a small propane cylinder caught fire.
Firefighters from Portishead and Avonmouth fire stations were called to the property after the small explosion blew out a window and wall panel at the house.
It’s believed the house had suffered a power failure during the night, and the man was using a camping stove to boil water. In the process of changing over an propane empty cylinder by candle light, escaping gas ignited causing a flash.
Firefighters provided first aid to the man who suffered burns to his hands and face. He was later taken to hospital by ambulance. A woman in her 60s who was in the house at the time was uninjured.
