We are currently seeking competent Crew Managers to transfer into Avon Fire & Rescue Service.  

Please note this opportunity is only open to competent Crew Managers. At this time, we are not accepting applications from firefighters in a promotion process.

Job Summary:

You will play a vital role in ensuring the safety and protection of our community. As a Crew Manager, you will assist the Watch Manager in effectively managing resources at Avon Fire & Rescue Service, supervising and supporting crew operations, leading and commanding at operational incidents, and educating the community on safety matters.

We also have several day duty roles available, where you will be working on exciting projects and making a positive impact on improving our Service.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Take command at operational incidents, develop strategic and tactical plans, and allocate resources effectively.
  • Save and rescue lives, provide basic treatment to casualties, and support rescue operations in hazardous conditions.
  • Minimize risks while protecting property from fire and hazardous materials.
  • Resolve uncontrolled events involving chemical, biological, and environmental hazards.
  • Supervise day-to-day activities, plan and allocate resources, and ensure service delivery meets objectives.
  • Lead, support, and motivate team members, conduct performance reviews, and provide constructive feedback.
  • Identify and address training needs, provide coaching, and evaluate training effectiveness.
  • Inform and educate the community on safety matters, deliver talks and training, and support local initiatives.
  • Conduct re-inspections of premises, set safety standards, and ensure compliance with fire safety regulations.
  • Collect and provide critical information for decision-making and report findings from investigations.
  • Must be a competent Crew Manager within a Wholetime position at another Fire & Rescue Service.
  • Hold a Class B driving licence.
  • Maintain personal competence according to the National Occupational Standard (NOS) Role Map.
  • Adhere to Health and Safety Regulations and report any hazardous situations.
  • Comply with the Equality and Fairness Policy, ensuring respectful and inclusive behaviour.
  • Apply the ‘Core Values in the Fire & Rescue Service’ in all duties and responsibilities.
  • Have a recent enhanced DBS check and willing to undertake an enhanced DBS check.
