Success at AF&RS engagement event for young people in Bristol

On Monday, 8 August, AF&RS were proud to welcome a group of young people, who are supported by Babbasa, to Hicks Gate Fire Station to find out more about a career within the fire service.

During the day, staff gave an overview of roles within the Service alongside practical ‘have a go’ sessions, including a ladder climb. We also held a focus group to better understand motivations for young people looking for employment.

Babbasa works with local organisations to help inspire and support under-represented young people in Bristol to pursue their ambitions through skills training, professional mentoring, events and recruitment support services.

Louisa Roger, Senior Business Partner – Marketing and Communications, said: “They were an inspiring group of young people with incredible drive. We covered some interesting topics throughout the day and look forward to seeing how many of them progress in their career of choice, whether that’s within the Fire Service or otherwise. The insight gained from this event will certainly help shape our recruitment campaign going forwards.”
