Fire service staff to hold a charity car wash

Avon Fire & Rescue Service (AF&RS) staff will have buckets, sponges and hoses at the ready for a car wash in aid of two important causes.

On Saturday 14 May, firefighters and corporate staff will open up Hicks Gate fire station for a charity car wash. The event will benefit two important causes; the Firefighters’ Charity and the British Red Cross Ukraine Crisis Appeal.

Lead fundraiser and Firefighter Dave Pollard said: "We're really pleased to be running yet another charity car wash to support two very important causes.

"Both the Ukraine Crisis Appeal and The Firefighters' Charity hold special places in the hearts of our staff. We hope the local community will enjoy coming down to the station, getting their cars cleaned and raising some all-important funds."

The Fire Fighters Charity provides support services and treatment to more than 13,500 serving and retired members of staff from UK fire and rescue services. It is run at a cost of £9 million a year and is entirely reliant on donations from the general public and fire community.

The Red Cross Ukraine Crisis Appeal exists to provide aid to those affected by the current conflict in Ukraine. Since the conflict began, Red Cross teams in Ukraine have helped more than 750,000 people. Assistance has included distributing 400 tonnes of vital aid, including food, blankets, hygiene parcels and warm clothes.
