Crews respond to building fire

Easton, Bristol.

Avon Fire & Rescue Service (AF&RS) were called shortly after 02:15am on Sunday 25 September to a fire at a block of flats in Easton, Bristol.

11 fire engines from Temple, Bedminster, Hicks Gate, Southmead, Bath, Kingswood, Weston-super-Mare, Pill and Portishead responded to the incident.

A number of specialist appliances were also on the scene, including two turntable ladders – from Bath and Temple, the Services’ Command Unit and Welfare Unit.

The fire was quickly extinguished however sadly, we can confirm one person died in the incident. Eight people were conveyed to hospital while three others were treated by the ambulance service at the scene.

The turntable ladder was used as a water tower to extinguish the blaze externally and jets were used to extinguish the flames from the inside. Firefighters searched and cleared flats in the building, with four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus for safety.

Fire investigation commenced in daylight hours on Sunday 25 September Fire Investigation Officers, alongside a fire investigation dog from Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service, identified the cause of the fire as accidental, due to an electric bike.

Fire investigation revealed that smoke alarms were provided in the property and electrics wired in by the landlords.
