Crews from across the Service called to major incident

Foundry Lane, Speedwell

Crews from across the service area were called to a fire in a commercial property consisting of multiple businesses.

On arrival, the incident was quickly sectorised with crews attempting to fight the fire safely.

Due to the nature of the incident, firefighters were withdrawn from the building for their own safety and turntable ladders were used to fight the fire in a controlled way.

At its height, 26 vehicles from across the Service and over 76 firefighters and officers were on scene to tackle the fire.

Working with the police, a cordon was put in place and 40 properties were evacuated due to cylinders within the building exploding.

This was scaled back the following day, with firefighters remaining on scene to damp down and control the smoke plume.

They also monitored the levels of asbestos is the area with Bristol City Council and the Environment Agency.

The cause is currently unknown with the investigation ongoing.
