Fire in four-storey building in Bath city centre

Grove Street, Bath

Crews from Bath, Hicks Gate, Kingswood, Temple, Radstock, Weston-Super-Mare and Avonmouth were called at 02:45 to reports of smoke issuing from a building.

On arrival, crews found a fire in the roof of a four-storey building and firefighters used multiple high pressure hose reels and jets, plus two turntable ladders as water towers, to extinguish the blaze. Eight firefighters wore breathing apparatus for safety, before using thermal imaging cameras to check for hotspots in the building.

All persons were safely evacuated from the building and an adjacent residential building. There were fortunately no casualties.

At the height of the incident, over 40 firefighters and seven fire engines were in attendance.

Our police colleagues were also at the scene.

The cause of the fire is thought to have been accidental ignition.
