One rescued from four vehicle collision

A37, White Cross junction, Farrington Gurney

A van involved in a collision with a bus and HGVOne man was freed by firefighters in a complex rescue following a four vehicle collision.

Crews from fire stations at Paulton, Radstock, Bath and Avonmouth were called to the incident in which a bus, van, car and HGV had collided. The drivers and passengers of the bus, car and HGV had been able to get out of their vehicles, however the driver of the transit-style van was trapped.

The vehicle had come to rest between the bus and HGV making access difficult for emergency crews. A winch was used to pull the bus forwards, allowing fire crews to access the driver’s side of the van. Hydraulic cutting equipment was used to remove the door before the driver could be freed and passed into the care of paramedics.

Crews remained on scene following the rescue making the scene safe.
