Sponges at the ready for charity car wash

Firefighters across Avon Fire & Rescue Service will have buckets and sponges at the ready as they take part in a charity car wash this weekend.

The annual Fire Fighters Charity Car Wash takes place on Saturday 17 September.

Motorists will be able to have their vehicles washed in return for a donation to the charity.

Crews at Keynsham Fire Station, on Temple Road, Keynsham, will be taking part in the event and will be joined by representatives from Mothercare, who will be offering advice about fitting child car safety seats correctly.

Crews at Nailsea, Speedwell and Yate fire stations will also be taking part in the car wash.

Drivers and their families will have the chance to meet their local firefighters and chat about fire safety while having their cars washed.

All money raised will be donated to The Fire Fighters Charity, which provides support services and treatment to more than 13,500 serving and retired members of staff from UK fire and rescue services. It is run at a cost of £9 million a year and is entirely reliant on donations from the general public and fire community.

Charity car washes will take place at the following locations:

Keynsham Fire Station, Temple Road, Keynsham, 9am to 3pm

Nailsea Fire Station, Pound Lane, Nailsea, 10am to 2pm

Speedwell Fire Station, Speedwell Road, Bristol, 11am to 3pm

Yate Fire Station, Station Road, Yate, 10.30am to 3pm
