Firefighters from Avon Fire & Rescue Service (AF&RS) have a new look following the adoption of the national fire and rescue service uniform.
When crews are carrying out visits in the community or working at their fire stations are now wearing light grey shirts and trousers, along with a red under t-shirt. The uniform replaces blue shirts and blue trousers that had been worn across the service until recently.
In the short term AF&RS firefighters will continue to wear their blue firefighting kit until that specific contract comes to an end next year. At that point firefighters will also be issued with new look safety wear.
Chief Fire Officer for, AF&RS, Kevin Pearson, said: “Although our uniforms have changed, the work our crews do in the community to protect the public and respond to emergencies will continue as before.
“With our existing contract for firefighting kit coming to an end we took the decision to move to the new uniform and take advantage of the benefits associated with the purchasing power of a national project.”
During visits to homes, businesses and other community events Avon Fire & Rescue Service staff will always carry identification. If any member of the public has concerns they should always ask to see identification or contact Avon Fire & Rescue Service on 0117 926 2061.
