Success at National Festival of Rescue

On Friday 30 September and Saturday 1 October, firefighters and officers from Avon Fire & Rescue Service (AF&RS) took part in the United Kingdom Rescue Organisation (UKRO) National Festival of Rescue, this year hosted by West Midlands Fire and Rescue Service.

Hundreds of firefighters from across the UK and beyond competed in a bid to be crowned 'the best of the best' in a rnade of rescue skills: rope rescue, extrication, water rescue, traume and Urban Search & Rescue (USAR).

Over the course of the weekend, our firefighters put their skills to the test and, after a lot of hard work, AF&RS are thrilled to announce that our crews won:

- 1st - Helm, Water Rescue Challenge

- 2nd - Urban Search and Rescue

- 3rd - HGV Extrication

AF&RS Technical Rope Rescue Team also took part in their first national challenge, and took 6th place, an outstanding achievement by all.

A brilliant weekend, full of new challenges and learnings, AF&RS teams made the Service, and our communities, proud.
