The search for the next Chief Fire Officer / Chief Executive of Avon Fire & Rescue Service (AF&RS) has begun, as recruitment opens for the Service’s new leader.
Candidates from all walks of life are encouraged to apply for the role and will be committed to making our communities the safest places they can be, enhancing the culture and values of the organisation and providing strategic leadership.
Avon Fire Authority will seek to appoint a candidate following a rigorous application process to include online psychometric tests, an operational resilience business continuity exercise, stakeholder engagement sessions, presentation and interview.
The recruitment process comes following the announcement of the existing Chief Fire Officer / Chief Executive Mick Crennell, on his plans to retire at the end of March 2022 after 30 years with the fire and rescue service.
Cllr Brenda Massey, Chair of Avon Fire Authority said: “Avon Fire Authority provides prevention, protection and emergency response services to the communities of Bristol, Bath and North East Somerset, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire. We pride ourselves on building safe and resilient communities for the little over a million people we serve.
“After joining us during a difficult period, Chief Fire Officer Mick Crennell’s leadership has transformed the Service these past few years. It’s important that we maintain this momentum and are looking for a talented, enthusiastic, and committed leader who can continue to support the Service on its continual improvement journey.”
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate an innovative approach to the leadership of a large service area with a good grasp of and commitment to diversity, inclusion, cohesion and equality issues both within the organisation and in our communities.
Cllr Brenda Massey continued: “Our purpose is to ensure the effective, efficient and value for money fire and rescue service that our local communities have come to expect. We are therefore looking for an individual who will uphold our Service values, strive for excellence in all areas and make effective use of resources whilst achieving continual organisational improvement.”
